Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television reporter, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was a reporter at the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), situated in Washington DC. In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin covering the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was made the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. As well as the the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. She was part of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms and also the issue of arms control. She traveled widely with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
